How to change a negative mindset
“I can’t do it”, “It’s too hard”, “I’m not good at it”, “I don’t know” if these little but impactful negative sentences sound familiar to you, then you’re at the right place.
4 tips to reduce a negative mindset
Here are some tips that work for me that can maybe help you too.
1. Listen to your body and mind
Challenging ourselves can lead to greater self-efficacy and success but sometimes we push ourselves too much even though our body is sending us signals that we are tired or sick.
Listening to your body and mind is self-care. All we need sometimes is to relax.
I know you probably heard about meditation 1000000000 times but don’t underestimate its power. You don’t have to meditate for 30 minutes without moving to relax.
My tips for you:
- Find a calm place (you can play slow background music if you want)
- Sit on a chair or on the floor (find a comfortable position BUT not too comfortable or you will end up falling asleep)
- Fix a point in the room or close your eyes if you prefer
- Breathe in and out slowly and deeply. Do this exercise for 5 minute and repeat it during your day whenever you want
2. Reduce distraction around you
One of the reasons we feel stressed, anxious and have negative thoughts is because we’re surrounded by too many distractions and noise.
Multi-tasking is not a good thing for your brain and will only slow down your productivity and cause you more stress.
Try to reduce your screen time. For exemple don’t open your social media as soon as you wake up. Put your phone on mute or even better put it in a different room when you work.
3. Find a hobby, take time for yourself
Painting, yoga, photography, making bracelets..Find something that can calm your mind and that you just enjoy doing. It doesn’t matter what it is as long as it makes you happy.
No matter how busy you are, finding time for yourself is important. Like I said previously we need time to let our body and mind relax.
To find time for yourself:
- Set boundaries, it’s ok to say “no”
- Leave work on time
- Schedule your free time/break. It can be just 30 minutes a day. If it’s not possible everyday, block out 1 hour of “me time” at least once a week.
- Turn off your phone
4. Surround yourself with positive people
See yourself as a sponge. We as humans absorb emotions & energy good or bad. That’s why surrounding yourself with positive, mindful people will help you reduce the negativity in you.
Look at the people in your life and see if they match the energy you want and yes it also means get rid of the ones that bring you down.
