Create a vision board: a step by step guide

In my previous post we talked about how vision boards are visual representations of your dreams and intentions.
In this post, we will see how to create your own vision board step by step. Remember the creative process is non- linear. You are free to follow the steps and go back and forth between them.

1. Set your goals

Before you start, you have to reflect on your goals and dreams. Get as clear as possible and honest with yourself. You can divide your vision board in different areas of your life: Personal ,career, finance, family, relationship, health etc

Here are some questions you can ask yourself:

  • What do I want to achieve ?
  • Who do I want to become ?
  • What are my financial goals ?
  • What is my dream job ? house ?
  • What kind of relationship do I want in my life ?
  • What affirmations do I need to remember ?

Don’t rush this step, it’s the most important one to create an effective vision board.

2. Choose your board style

Next, you will need a board as a base to create your vision. It can be a white board, corkboard, magnetic board or if you prefer you can use a free digital platform like canva or milanote and use a template .

3. Collect images and inspiring quotes

Once your goals are set and you know what kind of board you want to use, the fun part begins. Start collecting images, quotes and items that represent your vision and that will inspire you. Don’t try to organize your board yet just take your time to collect what you will need.

Those images, quotes can come from various sources: magazine, old photos, prints, postcards, pinterest etc

Depending on the board you chose you will have to buy the right materials to secure your items: pins, clips, magnets, tape

4. Arrange your items

Your vision boards need to be appealing to yourself. When you look at it you should feel motivated. Be creative and have fun. Choose colors, play around with different layout options until you like it.

Make sure you are happy with the look of your vision board before securing it. If you feel like something is missing go back to collect a few more images or quotes

5. Put your vision board where you will see often

Congratulations ! You’re done for now. Now it’s time to choose a place to put your vision board. Choose a place where you will see your vision board often so it can do its work as a reminder.
For instance you can place it on the mirror you use in the morning, your home office, use it as a computer or phone’s wallpaper.

As your goals evolve and new ones emerge, take some time to update your vision boards to keep it relevant to your journey.
